A Photo Essay of Northern California Wine Country

When you hear about California wine country, what do you think of? Probably the towns of Napa and Sonoma? These are typically at the forefront of most people’s minds since Napa and Sonoma are so synonymous with California wine. For the last week I’ve been on a road tour to uncover Northern California wine country. What is it that I found? That there’s still a lot to uncover. Nonetheless, I discovered some interesting things about it. I found out that in Mendocino County there can be such sharp diversity in grapes and wine because within a few miles there can be a temperature difference of as much as 30 degrees. In Boonville, locals created their own dialect decades ago that you still may find in conversation and even on the names of points of interest, including Breggo Cellars. And in the Napa Valley in Yountville at Cliff Lede Vineyards (Prounounced Lay-Dee), they like their wine with rock and roll. As the Northern California portion of my California road tour with Expedia comes to an end today, I highlight the trip in photos.

Mandatory stop on any California road trip.

The view from Breggo Cellars in Boonville

Bluffs along the Pacific coastline in Mendocino County

Overlooking Lake Sonoma just outside of Healdsburg

Windsor Oaks Vineyards in Windsor

Hot air balloons off and away over the Napa Valley

Cliff Lede Vineyards and Poetry Inn in the distance

Sunset over Napa Valley

While I’m on an assignment with Expedia through California to cover Northern California wine country, this was of my own accord. The photos and post came under the influence of a wine country playlist that included The Squirrel Nut Zippers, Mumford & Sons, and CCR.
